The unit in the dash is the part you touch every time you drive, and replacing it is one of the biggest quality-of-life upgrades you can make. A modern head unit puts your maps, your calls and your music on a screen that answers like your phone — wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, no cable. On many vehicles we can feed it into the factory display instead, so the dash looks exactly as it does now: nothing cut, the factory amplifier and steering-wheel controls still working, and everything able to go back to stock tomorrow.

The rest is what goes in alongside it. Backup and front cameras — on a whole run of BMWs the camera lives inside a replacement trunk handle, so it sits where the factory handle sits and nothing hangs off the bumper. Dash cams, hardwired and hidden. And speakers: a new unit paired with a system matched to the vehicle, heard side by side in our demo room before you commit, then tuned once it's in.
